Coming This Lent to South Arm United Church!
We all struggle with the level of violence, much of it attributed to God, which appears on the pages of our scriptures. We all wonder how best to respond to family and friends and Christians who insist that the God of the “Old” Testament is violent, while the God of the “New” Testament is loving. You are invited to stop struggling!
Under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Gary A. Gaudin, South Arm United Church is hosting another marvellous learning opportunity during Lent 2017 featuring John Dominic Crossan in a Living the Questions DVD-based resource entitled Violence Divine: Overcoming the Bible’s Betrayal of Its Non-Violent God. Crossan is one of the Church’s most engaging progressive thinkers, generating new possibilities in our reading of scripture and ourselves.
This 2016 DVD programme is based on Crossan’s 2015 book How to Read the Bible & Still Be a Christian: Struggling with Divine Violence from Genesis through Revelation (HarperCollins) which would make for wonderful reading between now and the beginning of Lent. It is available in hardcover, paperback and Kindle formats. Tell your family and friends.
Spread the word and see you on March 4th to kick off this learning adventure.
